Information and Rates
These custom workshops in black-and-white photography are specifically tailored to the needs and interests of each student. The program is designed for individuals or two persons enrolling together, and may last from one to five days.
The course program can range from an intense two or three days, covering film testing and the Zone System, or the techniques, tricks,and nuances of making a great print, to an extended five-day session where you can "pull all the pieces together". Darkroom sessions can include basic and digital Selective Masking techniques. As the only student, or working with a partner of your choosing, you'll have the opportunity to cover exactly the materials and techniques of interest to you, at the pace and level appropriate to your own abilities and requirements. One-day "crash courses" can also be arranged.
You'll be working in my home and darkroom-studio in Santa Fe and have the chance to hone your own skills in a master's lab. If field work beckons you, the great landscape and historic communities of Northern New Mexico will be at your doorstep.
These personalized workshops are for photographers with a solid foundation in basic technique, and may be most profitable for those working in medium or large format, however they are open to anyone with a desire to push their work forward.
PLEASE NOTE: If you first heard about my workshops through the Santa Fe Workshops I ask that you make all payment arrangements through them; they have been very supportive of my one-on-one program over the years. Rates* current since January 2004
- One person - $475 per day; $2135 for five days.
- Two persons - $725 per day; $3200 for five days.
New Rates* effective June 15, 2008
- One person - $550 per day; $2475 for five days.
- Two persons - $875 per day; $3950 for five days.
*Workshop rates and materials are subject to 6.5625% New Mexico tax.
Deposits and Cancellations
Once workshop dates have been mutually agreed upon, a 20% fee will be required to hold the dates.
Changes sometimes do need to be made, so the deposit will be refunded in full if cancellation is made 60 days prior to the scheduled start, 50% between 60 and 30 days, and no refund with less than 30 days notice.
Materials and Other Charges
For workshops including printing and/or finishing, most people find it more convenient to work with paper and materials I have on hand, rather than bring their own or buy locally. What's mine is yours, and we can work out of whatever stock I have on hand. At the end of a workshop I charge for materials on an as-used basis. I charge approximate MSRP for paper and mount stock, which I figure covers all the piddly stuff like chemicals and other sundries which I don't charge for. A fuel reimbursement will be applied for field session travel.
