Dusk, Alabama Hills, California
The Alabama Hills, on the east side of the Sierra Nevada mountain range, is one of my absolute favorite places in the world to photograph. I am drawn to the harsh realities of life where water is scarce--everything that grows here works so hard just to survive. When I lived in California, this was the first place I'd head when going out on a photo trip. There was something about the quiet, the incredible cloud formations that seemed to stay in perfect position for hours on end, and the rugged expanse that always seemed the right place to contemplate life and photography.
This image was made on one of those many trips and, for me, captures the essence of this incredible place.
