Window and Oaks Spring Island, South Carolina

I was teaching a workshop for a private client in Spring Island, South Carolina, in February of 2006, and one afternoon found us photographing in the remains of an old village made of Tabby concrete – a concoction of burnt oyster shells, sand and ash. The material has a marvelous texture and I was taken by the vision of some of the island’s incredible oaks through the window of a small roofless structure.
